Preadipocytes

Cells are isolated from a wide variety of patients with good representation from all levels of adiposity and age. Cells are available from both male and female donors. Pooled lots of cells are available from both male and female donors to provide large lots for screening and to decrease issues with patient to patient variability.
Two types of preadipocytes are available: Subcutaneous and Visceral Preadipocytes. The Visceral contains 3 sub-types.
Subcutaneous Preadipocytes
The preadipocytes are isolated from subcutaneous adipose tissue of healthy non-diabetic donors between 18 and 60 years old undergoing elective surgery. The preadipocytes are isolated by centrifugal force after collagenase treatment. Preadipocytes can be cultured as growing precursor cells or differentiated into adipocytes using medium supplemented with adipogenic and lipogenic hormones.

Visceral Preadipocytes (3 sub-types)
Omental Preadipocytes
The greater omentum is the largest peritoneal fold within the abdomen and has an immunologic function. The omentum aids in isolating peritoneal infection and absorbing contaminants through the mesothelial stomata. Adipokines and fatty acids from this depot have direct access to the liver through the portal circulation which may lead to hepatic dysfunction.

- Preadipocyte Human Omental (BMI 25 to 29.99) 088OP-F-2, 1E6 Cells
- Preadipocyte Human Omental (BMI sup 30.0) 088OP-F-3, 1E6 Cells
- Preadipocyte Human Omental (pooled with average BMI) 088OP-F-SL, 1E6 Cells
- Preadipocyte Human Omental from a diabetic donor 088OPD-F, 1E6 Cells
Mesenteric Preadipocytes
Mesenteric adipose lies within the thin layers of the peritoneal mesothelium connecting the small and large intestine. Adipose accumulation within this depot correlates with an increased risk of metabolic disease.
- Preadipocytes Human Mesenteric MSN-F, 1E6 Cells
- Preadipocytes Human Mesenteric, from diabetic donor MSND-F, 1E6 Cells
Perirenal Preadipocytes
Perirenal adipose resides near the kidneys outside the peritoneal cavity. Fat from this depot has not been correlated with increased risk for metabolic disease.
Quality controls
All cells have passed rigorous quality control measures including performance in lipid accumulation, lipolysis, and adipokine secretion. Cells have tested negative for HIV-1, HIV-2, HTLC-1, HTLV-2, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and mycoplasma.

Basal medium
Basal medium is serum-free and contains essential additives to maintain cells for up to 3 days. It can be supplemented for specific research purposes. The medium is available in 500ml bottles and is ready-to-use upon arrival.
Preadipocyte medium
Preadipocyte medium is used to plate preadipocytes prior to differentiation and contains growth factors necessary for expansion of preadipocytes. The medium is available in 500ml bottles and is ready-to-use upon arrival.
Differentiation medium
Differentiation medium is used to differentiate preadipocytes to mature adipocytes in culture. The medium is available in 100ml or 500ml bottles and is ready-to-use upon arrival.
Adipocyte medium
Adipocyte medium is used as a maintenance medium after differentiation and contains all of the factors necessary to support lipid accumulation in the maturing adipocytes. The medium is available in 500ml bottles and is ready-to-use upon arrival.
Proliferating adipocytes
Our services lab also offers adipocytes, differentiated in vitro from preadipocytes. Cells are available in a variety of plate formats. Please visit our dedicated page and fill out the online form for any requests.
