The viral preparations are prepared under strict procedures and are well characterised. Lot specific characteristics are described in a dedicated Product Specifications Sheet that comes together with the product.

As an example purified or direct-pelleted viruses are good tools to make PCR standard curves by "spiking" normal human plasma. They are also widely used for infectivity studies.
Purified viruses and, especially, lysates are frequently used in ELISA, Western blot, and other types of immunoassays.
