Human Internal Thoracic (Mammary) Artery Endothelial Cells (HITAEC) are derived from normal human internal thoracic arteries. They are cryopreserved at second passage and can be cultured and propagated at least 10 population doublings.
Study showed that the loss of endothelium-dependent relaxation could dangerously predispose the ITA graft to vasospasm in the post-operative period1. Increased incidence of VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 in the aorta and ITA may partly explain the enhanced atherosclerosis associated with diabetes mellitus2. Contractile responses to angiotensin I and II in the radial artery and internal thoracic artery (ITA) segments were examined in vitro3. Acetylcholine induces endothelium-dependent relaxation of the perforating branch of the ITA by stimulation of mucarinic receptors on the endothelial cells4.
