Sekisui XenoTech’s Research BioBank available at tebu-bio
The biological samples of this Liver BioBank are precisely collected and timely preserved to maximize tissue viability. The quantities thus obtained are also larger than those recovered with needle biopsies. This particular care given during tissue harvest distinguishes Xenotech’s BioBank from conventional human tissue sample collections obtained post-mortem and often associated with several hours of warm ischemia.
Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained slides are prepared for each and every lots in order to monitor tissue preservation. Masson’s trichrome slides are prepared to establish the presence or absence of liver fibrosis. Representative microphotographs are also available for each specimen.
Use of the Liver Research BioBank
The liver tissue samples come with pathologic diagnosis, demographic, BMI and, history of diabetes and alcohol use data. They are all gathered with the patient’s medical information in order to conduct research based on clinical data. This Liver BioBank copes thus with translational research projects aiming at analyzing the expression of drug targets and early markers of fatty liver diseases across diverse populations of US transplant liver donors. Finally, a selection of normal tissues is collected to satisfy requirements of a control population.

Liver pre-lysates and matched Hepatocytes
Disease-defined hepatocytes have been prepared from certain donors (healthy and those with early stages of alcoholic or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or diabetes). These cells have the potential to be a convenient human model of the aforementioned diseases. They are offered to scientists interested in disease biomarkers, in vivo / in vitro correlation of disease biomarker expression, with the aim of advancing in vitro studies of ailments linked to obesity and alcohol consumption. Donors that have already had hepatocyte isolations are highlighted in green in the complete donor list (see above).
